The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), established in 1863, works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance for people affected by conflict and armed violence and to promote the laws that protect victims of war.
The ICRC has been using Raiser’s Edge to manage its private, non-governmental fundraising activity since 2008. The Private Fundraising team works across disciplines such as individual direct marketing, trust and foundation fundraising, legacies and corporate partnerships.
Why they asked for support
When a new senior colleague joined the fundraising team at ICRC, they wanted to ensure the way they were using The Raiser’s Edge would support their future fundraising ambitions. As part of their wider strategic fundraising aims, they wanted a review conducted to understand how well they were currently using the Raisers Edge system to manage key fundraising disciplines.
What we did
Purple Vision’s solution was to carry out a two-day Health Check of how they were using the Raiser’s Edge.
We worked with ICRC to agree an agenda for the day, based upon what they had identified as the key areas of concern. This covered everything from gift coding, to the specific areas of fundraising, to how the database was being managed. With each area we drilled into how the business processes worked, how the data was stored, how the software was used or whether there was skill-gap.
The findings and recommendations from the health check were then captured in a concise report for the ICRC team to review.
One of the key recommendations from the initial health check was to develop a new coding structure in preparation for their move to a new direct marketing system.
Purple Vision were invited back in to run a one day workshop to understand ICRC’s strategic requirements, and to develop a project plan for moving forward with changes to coding, related business processes and systems to support Individual Direct Marketing.
How the client benefited
Ultimately, the Health Check has helped ICRC make better use of Raisers Edge. This was an important preparatory step for ICRC to take prior to the anticipated growth in scale and complexity of fundraising activities.
Feedback from the client
The health check report gave us confirmation of what we were doing well, and clearly prioritised some key areas for us to improve. The ‘Top 10 Recommendations’ summary made it very clear where we should focus our time and highlighted some reasonably quick wins as well as some longer-term strategic improvements, and it looked at the whole picture, from a people, process and technical perspective
