North London Collegiate School is an independent day school for girls founded in 1850 in Camden Town, and now in the London Borough of Harrow.
For several years, Raiser’s Edge had been used by their Development team – but when Amanda Lovejoy joined as Alumnae and Development Officer she quickly realised that the system wasn’t working for them as well as it should: “Records about who had given us money in recent years were a bit sketchy” said Amanda, “and areas like Gift Aid claims and the management of regular givers needed some attention, before we could really think about using it as a tool to power our fundraising activity”
Why they asked for support
Amanda identified that, although the software was an excellent fit to their needs, the real issues that needed addressing were the business processes that supported fundraising administration, and the quality of data that was held within the system.
Amanda identified that she needed someone to give an independent assessment of how the team were using the system, and to develop an action plan to address the issues.
“We spoke to Purple Vision about how they could help, and were immediately impressed by their references and their approach – it was clear that they would be able to provide us with the expertise that we needed”, said Amanda.
What we did
Purple Vision’s proposed solution advocated spending some initial time with staff at North London Collegiate School to conduct a ‘health-check’ of how they were using Raiser’s Edge. We agreed an agenda for the day, based on the key areas of concern that were identified. Within each of these areas, there was either a need to drill down into how the business processes worked, how the data was stored, how the software was used – or any combination of these factors.
Using the information gathered, we produced a detailed Findings and Recommendations report. This clarified why some problems were occurring, and gave our recommendations on how to fix them. Some of the recommendations were easily addressed by the team, while others required a bit more assistance from us. One key benefit of this process is that Amanda was able to see the light at the end of the tunnel – with realistic estimates of the steps to take, and time required to make Raiser’s Edge work for them again.
