The Princes Trust exists to help 13 to 30 year-olds who are unemployed or struggling at school to transform their lives. Many of the young people the Trust helps are in, or leaving, care, facing issues such as homelessness or mental health problems, or have been in trouble with the law. The Trust’s provision of programmes gives young people the practical and financial support they need to stabilise their lives, develop key skills while boosting their confidence and motivation.
Why they asked for support
The Trust’s database team was going through a period of staff transition and as such required external consultancy to support the team’s database development responsibilities whilst the team returned to full capacity. Most notably was the development request to improve the Trust’s data transfer process for its flagship mass participation challenge Event – Palace to Palace Bike Ride.
What we did
After taking the time to investigate stakeholder requirements and challenges around their current use of the system, we spent time understanding the system as it had been configured. We were able to identify key development items to improve the data transfers between their online events registration site (Active Networks) and their CRM Database System (The Raiser’s Edge). Utilising existing database tools (Microsoft Access & Importomatic) we built an end to end new data transfer system to take data from Active Networks and import into The Raiser’s Edge.
How the Trust benefited
- Central to the success of the development was an improvement in the Event data quality on Raiser’s Edge and team resource efficiency with the data transfers.
- The capture of more detailed information has improved the Trusts relationships with its supporters through more accuracy timely event communications about the Event.
- The database team has benefitted from a reduction in processing time as the process is quicker and more automated.
Feedback from the client
Purple Vision took a proactive interest in accurate completion of the project, asking questions where necessary and on one occasion chasing up for answers (thereby ensuring the project did not lose more time). There was also care taken to assign a developer with relevant experience, which was appreciated.
